Itinerary: 8 Day / 7 Night Walking Safari in Tanzania

TOUR REF: SSNT - Crater Highlands

A walking safari through Crater highlands takes you through a remote dramatic collapsed Volcano of Empakaai Crater 300m deep for a closer look at ’Birds’ nesting flamingos, experience the Maasai Steppe and finally climb Oldoinyo Lengai the live volcanic mountain (black lava very rare volcano)

Day 1: Ngorongoro Crater

We collect you from your hotel in Arusha in one of our comfortable safari vehicles with a walking safari team staff who are prepared serve you on the trek.  You will set off for Ngorongoro Crater, and descend onto the Crater floor for game viewing. Ascend to the rim.  Overnight Simba Campsite.  Animal are known to roam by night around the campsite; including: elephants, buffalos, hyenas, porcupine, and others.

Day 2: Bulati

We set off for remote area Nainokanoka Village, to add on more staff including a Park Ranger, donkey caravan and riders. Trek to Bulati via Olmoti Crater and Munge Falls. Overnight at Bulati Village Camp.

Day 3: Empakaai

Early morning hike to Empakaai Crater rim for a magnificent view of the Crater. This can be a foggy and chilly area, especially in the months of June and July.

Day 4: Acacia

A half-an-hour ascent through the lushly forested collapsed volcano Crater; home of leopard, buffalos, hyenas, jackals; and known as a breeding place of flamingo.  Ascend to the rim and proceed for overnight at Acacia Camp.

Day 5, 6. Oldoinyo Lengai

A dramatic trek to the foothills of Oldoinyo Lengai.  There you will be picked up by your safari vehicle and taken to Lake Natron for a two night stay at Lengai View Camp.  At midnight, you will be dropped off by a safari vehicle at the foothills of Oldoinyo Lengai for a steep four hour climb. Tea break en route.  Then back to the camp to relax and eat brunch. Enjoy a lake shore game drive and a visit to a Waterfall.

Day 7: Lake Manyara

On day seven we follow the Great Rift Valley Wall which will lead us to Lake Manyara.  En route visit to Engaruka Ruins a historical site.  Overnight tarOsero campsite.

Day 8: Lake Manyara/Arusha

Sounds of Wildlife ‘Birds chirping’ (early rise) for a game drive of Lake Manyara National Park, afternoon pack and departure to Arusha,
