Fitness is key to successful climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is recommended that you exercising 10 to 15 km ( 6 to 9 mi) per day on a hillside of about 30 degrees for at least six months prior to climbing. Sweets and energy bars are essential, a nice water proof back-pack (or waterproof cover) packed with warm clothes (maximum weight 15 kg or 33 lbs), good boots, rain suit, hat and some nice shades (sunglasses) to protect your eyes on an icy or cloudy day. Mountain sickness is common for many, but keep strong and once you touch the peak you will feel on top of the World!
The trip to Machame Gate at 1790 m / 5873 ft, takes about an hour from Kilimanjaro International Airport or your Hotel. If you need any pre-briefing on the climb, you can register at KINAPA Book. This is followed by a traditional greeting ‘’Jambo Jambo’’ from the team of assistance guides before the start of your climb.
ARUSHA - MACHAME VILLAGE - MACHAME

DINNER / OVERNIGHT MACHAME CAMP
Drive to Machame. Early lunch by the Main Gate. Ascent for 6-7 hr, walking distance 9km / 5.6 miles through the misty and foggy rainforest.“Wet and slippery’’. Wildlife to be seen en-route. Elevation changes slowly to Mooreland. Overnight Machame Camp at 3010 m / 9875 ft,
MACHAME - SHIRA
6KM, 5 - 6 HRS, 840M ASCENT ALT 3845M.
DINNER / OVERNIGHT SHIRA CAMP.
Breakfast overviewing the Kili-Peak and Shira Plateu. 5-6 hr trek, distance of 7 km / 4.4 miles through rough formation, and meanders with spectacular views down the Valley. Picnic lunch. This stage gets foggy in some areas. A side trek to Shira Cave is worth the visit. Overnight at Shira Camp at an altitude of 3845 m / 12,615 ft
SHIRA - BARRANCO.
10KM, 5 - 7 HRS, 110M ASCENT, ALT 3950M.
DINNER / OVERNIGHT BARRANCO CAMP.
Breakfast, then hike for 4 hr through Moorland and Alpine Desert and across the lofty rocks of Lava Tower at 4,430 m / 14,535 ft. You will meet extreme weather condition in this area. Lunch break in the dining tent. At this point you will be acclimatizing to prepare for higher altitudes before we descend to Barranco Camp at 3960 m / 12992 ft. You will walk 10km/6.2 miles today.
BARRANCO - BARAFU.
10 KM, 7-8 HRS, 650M ASCENT, ALT 4640M.
DINNER / OVERNIGHT BARAFU CAMP.
Breakfast. Then a steep and rocky climb to Great Barranco Wall with an awesome view of the Mountain Peak. Descend via Karanga Valley at 4040 m / 13255 ft. Enjoy a hot lunch (last water point). Continue to ascend to Barafu Camp at 4640 m / 15223 ft. Today's distance is another 10 km, 6.25 mile trek.
BARAFU - "UHURU PEAK"
5 KM, 6 - 7 HRS, 1296M ASCENT, ALT 5896M.
Midnight Summit to Uhuru Peak 5895 m / 19341 ft. This steep climb travels via rocky, sandy and/or snowy paths. Halfway up is a zig-zag trail to Stella Pont at 5,732 m, 18832 ft. And another 30 to 40 minutes, 150 m / 500ft to Uhuru Peak. See amazing views of Sunrise, Mawenzi, Ash Peak, Rebmann glacier and Furtwangler glacier. Distance traveled is 5 km / 4 miles trekking in 6-7 hours.
"UHURU PEAK" - MWEKA.
14KM, 5 - 7 HRS, 2800M DESCENT, ALT 3096M.
DINNER / OVERNIGHT MWEKA CAMP.
Picnic Breakfast. Descend to Barafu Camp for a hot lunch. 3-4 hours trek. Pack and descend to Mweka Camp for an overnight stay at 3050 m / 10,000 ft. Distance from Uhuru 14 km.
MWEKA - MWEKA VILLAGE - ARUSHA.
DESCEND: 10 KM, 3 - 4 HRS, ALT 1600M. DRIVE 2 HRS.
Breakfast. Descend to Mweka Gate at 1700 m/ 9 km. Trekking time 3-4 hours. Sign-out and other formalities at the Mountain Gate. Meet your transfer vehicle for Kilimanjaro International Airport or your hotel drop-off.
